Facebook Cheat Sheet: Photo Sizes
The Ultimate Facebook Cheat Sheet
Facebook photo albums, pictures, and videos generate about 180 percent, 120 percent, and 100 percent more engagement, respectively according to ragan. This guide will help you upload better quality images by using optimal dimensions that are appropriate for Facebook. As marketers, we all know the power of a compelling image and it would be a shame to have some images that are cut off due to incorrect photo dimensions.
Facebook Cover Photo
The cover photo is the large banner image that appears at the top of the company page. Although the minimum size that Facebook accept is 720 pixels wide, your image might not be the best quality. The optimal size for a cover photo is 851 x 315 pixels. Start with an image double the size (1702 x 630) in order to have a crisp looking image. Facebook will automatically resize your image if you have the right dimensions.
Here are the exact Do’s and Don’ts from Facebook:
- Do use a unique image to represent your page.
- Do experiment with different images to see which gets the best response.
- Do change up your image to highlight special events, seasonal trends, or other types of campaigns.
- Don’t include any content that may be deceptive, misleading, infringe on anyone else’s copyright, or violate Facebook’s Pages Terms.
- Don’t encourage people to upload your cover image to their personal Timeline.
- Don’t make more than 20 percent of your cover image text.
 Facebook Profile Photo
Your company page will also need a profile photo which will be displayed at a 160 x 160 pixels. The image being upload will need to be at least 180 x 180 pixels and rectangular images will be cropped to fit into a square image. Although your profile image may be legible, remember that the picture size will appear at 90 x 90 pixels on your fans’ Newsfeeds. Your profile image should still be recognizable at the 90 x 90 dimension as well.
Facebook Photo Albums
The Facebook photo albums can contain a maximum of 1,000 photos. The maximum image size uploaded on your company’s timeline or album cannot exceed 2048 x 2048 pixels. Make sure to check off the “high quality” box to allow the highest resolution possible.
